Final Metal Roof Rendering.png

Louisville, KY (November 14, 2025) – As the KFC Yum! Center celebrates its 15th Anniversary, the Louisville Arena Authority is unveiling a new rendering that highlights how the arena’s updated roof will transform its appearance from the riverfront view. The image release coincides with the final phase of the full replacement of the facility’s 250,000 square foot original roof.  The new roof is one of the most significant facility improvements since the venue’s opening and is the centerpiece of the LAA’s $13.6 million investment into major infrastructure upgrades this year.

Work on the main roof is nearing completion, and crews are now preparing to replace the curved section extending along the back of the venue facing the Ohio River. This last phase of the project includes a metal panel retrofit design chosen after an exhaustive investigation by building design experts. The new metal panels will feature a standing seam design that curves to match the existing radius of the riverfront elevation, creating a refreshed and modernized look. In a subtle nod to Kentucky’s bourbon heritage, the roof’s new pattern of vertical seams, replacing the former wide horizontal panels, carries an unexpected resemblance to the staves of bourbon barrels that help define Louisville’s culture.

This innovative design will improve the functionality of the roof and provide a life that isconsistent with the new roof 30-year warranty duration. It complements the arena’s original architectural design while improving both its performance and durability. Together, these upgrades demonstrate the Louisville Arena Authority’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a world-class, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of downtown Louisville.

To safely complete this work, certain east bound lanes of River Road between Second and Third Streets will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning Monday, November 17, 2025. This closure will remain in place intermittently through the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in January 2026. The portion of Third Street between Main Street and River Road that has been closed since the project commenced will reopen on November 17 but may experience occasional closures as needed.  As with the Third Street closings during this project, all roads will be open for major events taking place at the arena.

Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution in the area and follow posted detours. For more information or to see all the upcoming events at the arena, please visit kfcyumcenter.com.
