Louisville, KY (Aug. 1, 2016) – The 82nd Airborne Division All American Chorus will hold a free performance on the KFC Yum! Center’s Norton Healthcare Plaza for the Louisville community on Wednesday, August 10th from 11:30AM-1PM.  The chorus, which was first formed in 1964 and is comprised of 16 soldiers who have other roles throughout the division, has been recognized internationally for its spirited performances of military songs and pop hits like “American Soldier”, “Stand By Me” and “My Girl”. Originally started with the humble purpose of singing at Sunday services in the Division Chapel, the chorus has grown in popularity and gone on to perform at several professional and college sporting events and for various international dignitaries. In addition to the chorus’s performance, attendees will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with the service members and learn more about the Division’s service history. “Where Opportunity Knox” will be on hand to discuss their program, which seeks to connect 10,000 transitioning veterans and military spouses to jobs and the Greater Louisville region by 2017. The event is sponsored by the KFC Yum! Center and Louisville Downtown Partnership.

Attendees will have several food and beverage options at the event. The Louisville Water Company will be on-site keeping the audience hydrated with complimentary pure tap water as guests enjoy various food offerings from the 502 Café and El Mambo food trucks. Both food trucks will offer a military discount to former and current service members.

The event will kick off the 82nd Airborne Division Association’s 70th National Convention, which is being hosted by the Kentucky Airborne Chapter at the Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport and is expected to draw hundreds of supporters to Louisville for the event.  The 82nd Airborne Division is an elite Airborne Infantry Division of the United States Army, specializing in parachute assault operations into denied areas. Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the 82nd Airborne Division is the most highly-trained light infantry division in the world. Because of the exciting travel and performance opportunities afforded to chorus members, roles in the All American Chorus are highly sought after. Members of the chorus are selected from the division by auditioning and completing a 30-day probationary period, during which time they must test on 7 songs each week.  Once they pass the final week, they are an official member of the All American Chorus.

The 82nd Airborne Division Association is an international organization for former and current members of the division and other airborne and special operation units that seeks to foster relationships between current and past Airborne forces and maintain a record of the history and accomplishments of Airborne Troopers, amongst other support and recognition purposes.

As part of the convention, residents in Louisville and southern Indiana are also invited to see over 150  82nd Airborne Division paratroopers in action when they parachute into Clark County Regional Airport on August 11th at 11AM to officially kick off the convention.
