KFC Yum! Center’s 15th Anniversary Brings Major Roof Replacement and Launch of Long-Term Strategic Planning
Major Roof Replacement Underway
- A $13.6 million capital investment is being made this fall.
- Project includes full replacement of the original 250,000 sq. ft. roof.
- Roof replacement began August 4, 2025, and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
- The new roof will carry a 30-year warranty for long-term durability.
- Work is strategically scheduled to avoid disruptions to events.
- As the KFC Yum! Center celebrates its 15th anniversary this October, the roof replacement is part of a larger initiative to reimagine and further enhance the arena.
Long-Term Strategic Planning & Enhancements
- Over the next 15 years, $100 million+ in additional capital improvement projects are envisioned
Project Partners
- Deer Park Roofing, a Louisville-based company, was selected through a competitive RFP process to lead the roof project.
- ASM Global and the Louisville Arena Authority (LAA) are coordinating closely to manage construction and long-term planning.
Ongoing Arena Operations
- The KFC Yum! Center remains fully operational during construction.
- No disruptions expected for concerts, University of Louisville athletics, or other scheduled events.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES 🚧
- Third Street Closure: A portion of South Third Street between River Road and Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning August 18, 2025, and will remain closed through the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in December 2025.
- Additional Closures: Additional temporary road closures may be required as work progresses. Details will be announced in advance as needed.
- Parking Garage Access: Parking garages located on the affected block—including the KFC Yum! Center and Galt House garages—will remain open during construction. However, visitors must enter off of and exit toward Main Street, as access to River Road will be closed, except for major arena events.
- Event Traffic Accommodation: South Third Street will temporarily reopen during major ticketed arena events to support traffic flow and ensure guest access.
- Traffic Control: Safe Zone Services has been contracted to manage traffic control and oversee the road closure plan.
The closure will be lifted for major arena events.
